The following Whitko Community School students are Students of the Month for September 2026.

Lillian Stump – Whitko Junior Senior High School’s student of the month
Lilly Stump was nominated by junior high teacher JD Ayres, who has been especially impressed with the growth and maturity she has demonstrated this school year. “Lilly has made tremendous strides as a student and as a young person,” he said of the eighth grader. “She consistently shows respect toward her teachers and classmates, is willing to help other students, and regularly volunteers to participate and contribute in the classroom. Her positive attitude and willingness to become more involved have not gone unnoticed. “One of the most impressive aspects of Lilly’s year has been her personal growth. She has worked hard to make positive choices, follow school and classroom expectations, and take greater responsibility for herself. Her progress is a wonderful example of how effort, maturity, and a commitment to improvement can make a meaningful difference.”

Harley Stein – Whitko Career Academy student of the month
Junior Harley Stein was nominated by Megan Anderson, the academy’s criminal justice teacher. “I am excited to nominate Harley Stein as student of the month,” she said. “Harley is a second-year student who has grown so much since her first year. It has been really fun to watch her become more confident and comfortable in the classroom. “Harley really pushed herself toward the end of the school year last year and is continuing to show the same drive this year. She has stepped outside of her comfort zone in many ways, including attending a criminal justice camp over the summer, where she was able to learn more about the field and try new things. She has taken those experiences and brought that same attitude into the classroom. “One of the biggest changes I have seen in Harley is her confidence. She is much more willing to join classroom discussions, share her thoughts, and challenge herself. Even when something is stressful or way outside of her comfort zone, she keeps pushing herself. Seeing how much she has grown since her first year has been awesome, and I am really proud of her for the effort she continues to put in. I can’t wait to continue to watch Harley excel. She is a great example of what can happen when you are willing to push yourself, try new things, and not let being uncomfortable stop you.”

Sarah Coburn – South Whitley Elementary School student of the month
Nominated by her fifth grade teacher, Jessica Long, who said, “Sarah demonstrates a hard work ethic, perseverance, and determination. She walks into the building each day bright and early with a smile. She is one of the first to check on a friend, always willing to lend a helping hand, and always has a compliment for someone ready to go. “When material doesn’t come naturally or easily, Sarah doesn’t give up or become discouraged. Instead, she rises to the occasion and finds a way to be successful. She does not give up when faced with a challenge and is always willing to keep trying. Sarah is kind and respectful to both her peers and adults. Her positive attitude and strong work ethic make her a great example for others. “You can always find this Bulldog being respectful, responsible, and safe while making positive choices!”

Keenan Gonzales – Pierceton Elementary School student of the month
Keenan was nominated by his fifth grade teacher Kara Muckerheid, who said, “Keenan is always willing and ready to help his classmates. Whether they need help with schoolwork or are simply having a difficult day, Keenan is always there to lend a helping hand. He is very kind and respectful to everyone he meets. You will rarely see him without a smile on his face.”
