The following Whitko Community School students are Students of the Month for February 2026.

Sophie Keener – Whitko Junior Senior High School’s student of the month
Nominated by teacher John Strayer, who said of the junior, Sophie is respectful, hard working, and willing to help anyone. She is not afraid to ask questions when not understanding a concept. She has a heart of gold. She is very caring and will go out of her way to help others. Sophie is a joy to have in class.

Gracelyn Rose – Whitko Career Academy student of the month
Nominated by teacher Megan Anderson, who said of the sophomore, I’m nominating Gracelyn Rose for student of the month because of the effort and attitude she brings to class every day. She goes above and beyond when it comes to participating. She shares her opinions often, and she does it in a respectful way that helps get other students talking and thinking more. Gracelyn isn’t afraid to step out of her comfort zone and try new things. She works hard and stays focused on her schoolwork. If she sets her mind to something, she sticks with it. What some people might see as stubbornness, I see as dedication and I love that about Gracelyn. She doesn’t give up easily, and that’s a strength! Recently, Gracelyn competed in an event that had some challenging moments. Even when things didn’t go perfectly, she stayed positive and supported her teammates, staying committed to the team. Gracelyn’s effort, determination, and willingness to speak up make her deserving of this recognition!

Jersee Mathias – South Whitley Elementary School’s student of the month
Nominated by teacher Michelle Walker and the Title I team, who said, Jersee is a second grader who comes to our Title 1 room and always has a bright smile on her face. She is such a hard working student and does not give up easily when things become difficult. She is always ready to respond to questions, raising her hand to give ideas and thoughts about what is being asked. We also often notice Jersee helping friends in need in our classroom by helping them with answers, and we’ve also noticed this on the playground. We are so proud of Jersee and the amazing student she has become.

Alivia Anderson – Pierceton Elementary School’s student of the month
Nominated by teacher Kennedy Musselman who said of the first grader, Alivia consistently follows both classroom and school rules and helps make our classroom a positive place to learn. She listens carefully, follows directions the first time, and makes safe, responsible choices each day. She also encourages her classmates to follow the rules and make good choices, setting a wonderful example for everyone around her. She comes to school prepared and ready to work hard, always putting forth her best effort in everything she does. Her positive attitude and leadership make her a great role model in our classroom.
