Riggers Welcomed as PES Principal

Pierceton Elementary School principal Elizabeth Riggers

Elizabeth Riggers was approved as Pierceton Elementary School principal during a special meeting of Whitko Community Schools Board of Trustees, Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Her first day is Monday, September 8. She replaces Whitko Superintendent Dr. Amy Korus, who was interim principal at PES.

Riggers was Wayne Center Elementary School Dean of Students and the instructional and technology coach at North Side Elementary School. Both schools are in Kendallville. She was a Kindergarten teacher at Avilla Elementary School from 2017 to 2021, where she was named Avilla Elementary Teacher of the Year.  Along with her K-12 administrative license, she has a teaching license with a literacy endorsement. 

She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne in 2016 and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Purdue University – Fort Wayne in 2022.

“I’m so excited to be a part of this community and of this district,” Riggers said at the school board meeting. “I’m so proud to be a Pierceton Cub. I look forward to all the things we can do together, as a team, and I look forward to inviting you into the building to see all the amazing things that are happening at Pierceton Elementary.”

Whitko’s superintendent Dr. Amy Korus said, “We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Riggers to the Whitko family. I’m excited to see her use her strengths of fostering a positive school culture where students love learning, feel supported, and look forward to coming to school every day.”
