Indiana schools are required to post information regarding certain reports and publications on their website. Please see below.

Child Abuse and Child Sexual Abuse Education Program:

Whitko Community Schools utilizes Child Safety Matters to comply with Erin’s Law in the elementary schools. Parents are encouraged to review the materials. An opt-out form is provided by the school and must be filled out and turned in to excuse a child from the program.

Whitko Community Schools utilizes Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide in seventh through 12th grades to comply with Erin’s Law in the secondary school. The organization provided Teen Lures Personal Safety videos differentiated for middle and high school students. Parents are encouraged to review the materials. An opt-out form is provided by the school and must be filled out and turned in to excuse their child from the program.

Dyslexia Intervention Report:

At Pierceton Elementary School all students are annually screened for dyslexia. Whitko’s main dyslexia intervention program is the Orton Gillingham Brainspring Program, along with Wilson Reading Foundations and the Mindplay computer program.

At PES there were eight Kindergarten students; five first graders and six second graders who received intervention. One student was identified with dyslexia.

At South Whitley Elementary School all students are annually screened for dyslexia. Whitko’s main dyslexia intervention program is the Orton Gillingham Brainspring Program, along with Wilson Reading Foundations and the Mindplay computer program.

At SWES three Kindergarten students, four first graders and three second graders received intervention.

Elementary
K-6: American Reading Company (ARC)
Remedial program: K-6 University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) for Phonics

Secondary
Whitko’s reading and writing curriculum is based on the Indiana State Standards, which we use to guide our unit and lesson planning. Our department collaborates to ensure alignment across grade levels, creating a cohesive and standards-focused approach to instruction.  

7th & 8th Grade: American Reading Company (ARC)
AP Lang: The Language of Composition, 3rd edition 
AP Lit: Literature and Composition, 3rd edition

School Corporation Posting of Online Course Information:

Whitko students have access to APEX online courses. The school reserves 100 “seats” per course. Students may access courses as they’re available.
