Whitko’s FFA Chapter members continued their tradition of hosting an annual Ag Day for all Whitko Community Schools third and fifth grade students on May 15.
The Pierceton and South Whitley elementary schools’ students visited the Whitko Career Academy campus Ag Barn in morning and afternoon sessions. The groups were escorted by high school students, rotating through 15 stations presented by FFA members as an introduction to dairy calves, poultry, ATV, mower safety, horses, rabbits, goats, sheep, pigs, and machinery.
Whitko senior and FFA member Isaac Irwin said, “This is the second year I have organized Ag Day and I have seen first hand how it can impact younger generations as they discover new things within agriculture. It is a great way to open their eyes to all that agriculture has to offer.”
Livestock and equipment for the day was provided by FFA members, their families, and local farms and businesses.
