February Students of the Month Announced

The following Whitko Community School students are Students of the Month for February 2025.

Magdalynn ClarkWhitko senior student of the month
Nominated by teacher Molly Long who said, Maggie Clark embodies the spirit of academic excellence and school pride. A dedicated member of the band, Student Council, and National Honor Society, she pours her passion into every aspect of Whitko life. However, it is her professionalism and wisdom in peer tutoring that truly set her apart. With patience and kindness, Maggie guides younger classmates through their studies, modeling strong work habits and breaking down concepts with clarity. She is more than a tutor—she is a mentor, a role model, and a shining example of leadership in action.

Caylee ClarkWhitko junior student of the month
Nominated by teacher Mike Hanback who said, Caylee is a young lady who has changed much over the last couple of years. While she started high school as an okay student, she has blossomed into a good student who really cares about her grades and doing well in her classes. She participates in class, is a leader in her classes, and is willing to engage with teachers and administrators. She will make her feelings known, more to make things better, rather than complain about what is happening. She is such a pleasure to have in class.

Vera MabonWhitko sophomore student of the month
Nominated by teacher Dan Coil who said, Vera is a student who consistently participates in class and helps other students understand the lesson content. She is involved in cheerleading and maintains good grades. She takes great pride in her work and strives to get perfect scores on her assignments. She is, without a question, the leader in her World History class.

Marissa RodgersWhitko freshman student of the month
Nominated by teacher Molly Long who said, Marissa Rodgers is a standout student whose intelligence, diligence, and kindness make a lasting impact in the classroom. She approaches her schoolwork with thoughtfulness, consistently offering insightful responses that elevate discussions in English 9 Honors. Always prepared and dependable, Marissa leads by example, demonstrating a strong commitment to learning. She advocates for herself and her education by asking thoughtful questions, seeking deeper understanding, and embracing every challenge with curiosity and determination. Marissa’s dedication and engagement make her a valued member of the Whitko community.

Aliana WestnessWhitko eighth grade student of the month
Nominated by teacher Charissa Wilson, who said, Aliana is kind to others and is willing to help those in need. She almost always gets her work done on time. Both times that she noticed she had a missing assignment, Aliana immediately and independently worked to complete the assignment and communicate with the teacher. She works hard and stays focused during class so that she can accomplish her goals. Overall, Aliana is a wonderful person and a joy to have in class.

Delenn AntanovichWhitko seventh grade student of the month
Nominated by teacher Diana Nettleton who said, Delenn has demonstrated such kindness to students who are struggling to make friends. She has the ability to make people smile and does this a lot. She is a hard worker in her classes.

Jonathan HernandezWhitko Career Academy student of the month
Nominated by teacher Chris Neeley who said, Jonathon is a pleasure to have in class. He has a very good work ethic and leads by example on the jobs we undertake. His knowledge is outstanding in the construction field and continues to grow. He is always willing to do any task I assign him, even if his facial expressions may give away his displeasure. Jonathan has been in my program for a little over a year now and I look forward to working with him next year to finish out his pathway.

Zayne BanksSouth Whitley Elementary School’s student of the month
Nominated by fifth grade teacher Jessica Long who said, Zayne is a hard worker, willing learner, and a great model of perseverance. He has a good attitude about school even when it’s difficult. Zayne is respectful to his peers and the adults he works with each day. He is always willing to lend a helping hand when anyone might need it.

Korinne Hoppas – Pierceton Elementary School’s student of the month
Nominated by fourth grade teacher Laura Thong-Umpai and resource teacher Angela Speicher. Laura Thong-Upmai said Korinne was an easily chosen recipient of Student of the Month due to her hard work and effort on a daily basis. She works diligently to understand the concepts presented and is excellent about asking questions when she needs help. Additionally, she arrives at school with a positive, can-do attitude and maintains this demeanor throughout the entire day. She is a joy to be around and she loves to celebrate her victories. She is a worthy receiver of February’s Student of the Month for Pierceton Elementary.

Angela Speicher said, Korinne Hoppas was chosen for Student of the Month because of her hard work the last few months. She is working to improve her skills in all areas, especially reading. She shows that she is very conscientious with her homework and home reading. She always has a smile on her face and arrives ready to work. In groups, Korrine is a leader and will try to help others when they are struggling. I am happy to recommend her for February’s Student of the Month for Pierceton Elementary.
