The following Whitko Community School students are Students of the Month for September 2024.
Gwen Howard – Whitko senior student of the month
Nominated by teacher Mike Hanback, who said: Gwen is a superior student in that she works very hard, participates and answers questions a lot, and is driven to do her very best. She is in a number of AP classes, and does well in all of them. While a great student, she is also involved in much of what happens here at the high school, especially as a member of the girls track team. She is a wonderful example of what a well rounded student looks like.
Treyton Larson – Whitko junior student of the month
Nominated by teacher Antimony Fox, who said: Trey is working hard, taking material seriously, and asking questions in class. He is a totally different student than last year (a good thing) while still keeping his sense of humor. He’s really focusing on improving so he can be successful in his future.
Abigail Griffith – Whitko sophomore student of the month
Nominated by teacher Mike Hanback, who said: Abby is always present – focused, attentive, and she participates a lot. Her work ethic is wonderful, her products are high quality. She is a joy to have in class. She has a love for learning that is pretty obvious, and she is willing to share it with others in the class.
Katelynn Caldwell – Whitko freshman student of the month
Nominated by teacher Molly Long, who said: Katelynn is an exceptional English 9 student, known for her preparedness and inquisitive nature. She consistently asks insightful questions and seeks to challenge herself in all aspects of her learning. Katelynn is both driven and focused, demonstrating a strong commitment to her academic growth. She also is kind and respectful, fostering a positive classroom environment for both peers and teachers. As an avid reader and deep thinker, Katelynn brings a thoughtful perspective to class discussions.
Jacob Tuttle – Whitko eighth grade student of the month
Nominated by teacher Charissa Wilson, who said: Jacob is always attentive in class and tries his best. He is kind to others and is willing to help those in need.
Joe Quinones – Whitko seventh grade student of the month
Nominated by teacher Charissa Wilson, who said: Joe always tries his best and is willing to answer questions in class. He always seems to brighten the mood of every room he is in. His positive attitude and kindness are contagious.
Kyra Poe – Whitko Career Academy student of the month
Nominated by teacher Megan Anderson, who said: Kyra consistently demonstrates outstanding qualities in the classroom. Not only does she volunteer to assist with various tasks and projects, she also helps classmates whenever needed. Kyra is a student who sets a high standard by following rules, showing kindness to everyone, and leading by example. She goes above and beyond classroom expectations, contributing positively to the learning environment. Kyra has jokingly earned the title of our “classroom spokesperson” with her ability to communicate effectively and represent the classroom with enthusiasm.
Raelynn Brewer – South Whitley Elementary School’s student of the month
Nominated by teacher Anna Busz, who said: Raelynn Brewer is a kindergartener in Mrs. A Busz’s class. She always comes to school with a smile on her face. Raelynn is eager to learn and works hard at everything. She is a wonderful friend and is always willing to help people around her. Raelynn wants to use her helpful heart to be a nurse when she grows up. She loves playing doctor and dolls with her friends. Raelynn has worked so hard and never gives up. Her sweet personality and work ethic make Raelynn a joy to have in class. Way to go, Raelynn!
Ford Coy – Pierceton Elementary School’s student of the month
Nominated by teacher Maddie Walker, who said: Ford is a great example for how directions should be followed, not just in the classroom but in the school. He is always willing to be a helping hand for peers and staff. He shows kindness, compassion, responsibility, and respect. When a student needs help he is the first one to be by their side, whether that be needing a supply, needing a hug, help with directions, or picking things up. Ford shows C.U.B.S. behavior, day in, and day out.
