Whitko recognizes Students of the Month for January

Whitko students of the month January 2026

The following Whitko Community School students are Students of the Month for January 2026. 

student of the month Addisyn Hersha

Addisyn Hersha – Whitko Junior Senior High School’s student of the month

Nominated by teacher Mike Handback, who said of the junior, Addi is a young woman who has blossomed as a student over the last two years in my classes. She has opened up to me, will talk to me about what is happening in her life, and accepts any error she may make. She is respectful, hard working, and is herself, meaning when you talk to her, you are talking to who she really is, not some ‘image’ she is trying to hide behind. While she works outside of school, she is maintaining her grades in all her classes here at the high school. She has a goal to graduate, and the drive which will allow her to achieve whatever she sets her sights on. She is just a pleasant person to have in my class.

Kelton Kilbourne – Whitko Career Academy student of the month

Nominated by teacher Jade Hollenbaugh, who said of the sophomore, Kelton is a great student and a leader in the class. He is always willing to help students who are struggling.

Madilynn Fugate – South Whitley Elementary School’s student of the month

Nominated by teacher Tammy Datzman, who said, Madilynn is an outstanding first grade student. She is a delightful young girl who has great manners. She always says “please” and “thank you” and helps others when they need it. Madilynn is a wonderful friend who is kind and who shares. Madilynn is a hard worker, works well with others and gives everyone a chance. She has a wonderful sense of humor and is a pure delight to have in our first grade class. It is with great honor that Madilynn is our student of the month.

Taya Carver – Pierceton Elementary School’s student of the month

Nominated by teacher Tasha Kinney, who said, Taya is kind and respectful to adults and peers in the classroom. She always tries to make sure students of all abilities are included in activities and conversations. She provides help as needed to the students in her group. She will often advocate for other students who may not advocate for themselves. She is a kind and caring member of the fifth grade team.
